Hikawa Maru You will see a large ship mooring in the port in Yamashita Koen Park. It is Hikawa Maru, which started its service as a passenger ship for Japan-Seattle line in 1930. During the WWII, she was sent to Seattle to evacuate Japanese nationals then was fitted as a navy hospital ship. Its first-class cabins attracted many passengers including Japanese Prince and Princess Takamatsu and Charlie Chaplin. After 30-year of her service, Hikawa Maru retired and now serves as a museum. Open: 10am – 5pm, close on Tuesdays Admission: 200 yen |
