Azaleas Kairakuen Since it was established by Tokugawa Nariaki in 1842, Kairakuen, literally means ‘a park for everyone to enjoy’, has been a park for public. Kairakuen has both formal Japanese landscape garden and modern park features. While it really is best to see Kairakuen during the plum blossom season (plum blossom season is before cherry blossom season and normally in March), you can still enjoy the park throughout the other seasons. Other features of Kairakuen include a cedar forest, bamboo trees, cherry blossoms and azaleas. Plum Trees Kairakuen KobunteiLocated in the middle of Kairakuen, Kobuntei is a historic three-story wooden building built by the order of Tokugawa Nariaki. He would invite writers, artists and residents of his domain and host parties here. It’s notable that each room has featured Fusuma (sliding door) with various beautiful flowers and trees painted. You can enjoy the spectacular view of almost the whole park from its 3rd floor.
