Kanazawa Castle

Kanazawa Castle is the remains and reconstruction of the Japanese castle located next to Kenrokuen Garden. Kanazawa Castle, a Japanese castle, was built in 1583 by the order of Maeda Toshiie who was a feudal lord of Kaga Clan. Since then, Maeda family resided here and governed Kaga Clan for over 280 years. Kanazawa Castle is located in Kanazawa right next to Kenrokuen Park, one the Three Great Gardens of Japan. Ishikawa-mon Gate - Kanazawa Castle Ishikawa-mon Gate is originally a rear gate for the castle. It was burned down several times over the years and the current gate was rebuilt with two distinctive styles of stonework in 1788. It is designated as an Important National Cultural Property. This gate faces to Kenrokuen Park and is illuminated at night. Hashizume-mon Tsuzuki Yagura - Kanazawa Castle Hishi Yagura, Gojikken Nagaya, and Hashizume-mon Tsuzuki Yagura – Hishi Yagura and Hashizume-mon Tsuzuki Yagura are both turrets and connected by Gojikken Nagaya, which is a storage house. These buildings were restored in 2001 to their 1809 form, using traditional construction methods. Sanjikken Nagaya - Kanazawa Castle Sanjikken Nagaya is a storage house, which was rebuilt in 1858. It is designated as an Important National Cultural Property. Kahoku-mon Gate - Kanazawa Castle Kahoku-mon Gate was the main gate of the castle. The current gate was rebuilt in 2010.
