Ohori Park

Ohori Park (Ohori Koen) Fukuoka is the location of the original Fukuoka Castle. Ohori Park is now one of the most beautiful water parks in Japan. ‘Ohori’ means a trench because this place was originally a trench of Fukuoka castle. In 1601, when Fukuoka castle was built by the order of Nagamasa Kuroda, the old lord of Fukuoka, they reclaimed the land where was facing Hakata Bay and made a trench for Fukuoka castle. The present park was re-constructed by Fukuoka-shi, as a close replica of the West Lake of China, and opened in 1929. This park is one of the most beautiful water parks in Japan and loved by local people as a relaxation spot. Fireworks festival is held here in the summer.
