Two sisters in kimonosThe tomesode is a formal Japanese kimono. A married woman would normally wear a tomesode to a Japanese wedding ceremony of a close relative. It would not be worn to a friend’s wedding or any other ceremonies. The houmongi is used for these occasions. A picture of two sisters. The black background of the tomesode is clearly designed to contrast with the white of the uchikake. The colorful obi and lower half of the tomesode shows that it is being worn on a happy occasion.
